Gemmies Crystal Creations – Create Something Amazing!

Posted by on Jan 31, 2017

I grew up with a gaggle of boys (and when I say gaggle, I mean gaggle. 5 to be exact). So girly toys were short lived in my house. Fast forward to my adulthood and here I am raising girls. And can I just tell you? I LOVE IT. It is ALL about the bling in our house. We simply cannot be without our polished toes and fingernails, accessories are a must and if we can find a way to give our outfit some pizazz? WE DO IT!

Gemmies are the next evolution of the popular 3D beading craft. Following a simple process, kids clip Gemmies crystals to elastic rings then join completed rings to create a 3D sparkling creation! Design templates are intuitive and use a repetitive pattern that lets kids develop their cognitive abilities and progress to designing their own creations.

You can make anything out of Gemmies crystals. starting series include animals, flowers and more! Store all your Gemmies crystals and accessories in the Gemmies Design Studio and display your favorite creation on the light up pedestal.

It is so quick and easy, you could literally create a one of a kind piece of art while getting ready to walk out the door, or even on your way to any event! By simply clipping and connection Gemmies together, you have instantly make a “uniquely you” work of art! My 10-year-old daughter literally made a birthday gift topper for one of her little friends as yes, she informed me, even the present was missing some “sparkle”. All it takes is three easy peasy steps; CLICK, CONNECT, CREATE.

I love that my two girls with their two very differing personalities can create something so “them” and let their imaginations soar. At the moment, my 10-year-old is very much into accessorizing, so we see a lot of rings, glasses and such. My 8-year-old is all about the animals, so her creations involve a Crystal Compound of different designs. Each with their own style, they display it with GEMMIES! So get your groove on and get ready for that bling! Grab your GEMMIES and create something amazing!

Reading: I Can’t Survive Without It – Plus, Kindle Book Deals

Posted by on Jan 19, 2017
I LOVE to read!! I read every day. I absolutely adore books. They can take you to a whole new world. They can expand your horizons, raise your hopes, or feed your fears. They can make you laugh or cry or both. Sometimes in the same paragraph. There is nothing better than a “can’t put it down, stay up way too late” good book.
My all time favorite author is Orson Scott Card. I own most of his books and love reading them. He is a fantastic writer. His imagination is amazing. My favorite book by him is Enchantment. It’s a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. So good! I’ve read it lots of times and I’m sure I will read it many more. But, while Orson Scott Card is my favorite author my favorite book of all time is The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley.
 the blue sword
I remember that my very favorite book as a child was Harry and the Terrible Whatzit. I had to buy a copy when I had kids because no one could find my old one. That’s the only specific book I can remember from being young, but I’m sure there were lots. I’ve always loved reading.
As a youth I loved mystery novels. I read a lot of R.L. Stine books.
Now I love everything. My favorite type of books are Science Fiction and Fantasy. But I love most everything! I also have a bit of an obsession with Vampire books. I’ve read a LOT of them! Some of them are good, while some are not. I’m open to reading pretty much anything other than horror. I find that the older I get the more of a wuss I am. I have also really been loving mysteries lately. The Girl on the Train was amazing.
I’d love to hear your favorite book so I can add it to my list of things to read!
And make sure to check out the Kindle book Deals going on now! I absolutely love the free and cheap books from Amazon. Download them and read them when you have time. If they suck, who cares? Plus, there are a lot of good ones out there. You might just find your next favorite series or author.

National Geographic Kids books of Heroes and Heroines

Posted by on Dec 7, 2016

A few months back we had one of my favorite holidays. HALLOWEEN! I always love to dress up with my kids as we do a “family theme” but I typically will do an easier costume for work. This year, has been quite a doozy for me and I needed to feel my inner heroine. I decided to go with Rosie the Riveter. What an amazing symbol for my girls to learn about. It was a great way to tell them about history and what women can accomplish when they have a common goal. It was fun to check out some articles online and read about her.  I was emulating her for Halloween- I wanted to get her story right!

You can imagine how excited I was when I read about the National Geographic Kids books of Heroes and Heroines and saw ROSIE on the cover! My kids are already fans of National Geographic Kids books, so when I saw these, well. Let’s just say it didn’t take any super human strength on my part to grab them up!

The Book of Heroes is available for purchase for $11.25 from Amazon.

The Book of Heroines is available for purchase for $11.06 from Amazon.

Both The Book of Heroes and The Book of Heroines retail for $14.99 each and are great gift books for children ages 8-12.

National Geographic Books of Heroes/Heroines

  • Discover the true stories of superstars, war heroes, world leaders, peacemakers, and other gutsy gals who changed the world in The Book of Heroines. The Book of Heroines highlights heroes such as Mother Teresa, Marie Curie, Misty Copeland, Tina Fey, and Emma Watson.
  • Discover the true stories of superheroes, rebels, world leaders, action heroes, sports legends, and many more daring dudes in The Book of Heroes.
  • The Book of Heroes highlights heroes like Galileo, Sitting Bull, Michael Jordan, and Stephen Hawking.
  • Although the word “hero” has many meanings and many people can be called heroes in real life or fiction, in these books, heroes tend to share seven stupendous qualities:
  • Heroes are courageous
  • Heroes do the right thing
  • Heroes have compassion
  • Heroes are competent
  • Heroes are inspiring
  • Heroes never quit
  • Heroes leap to action

My kids definitely love to read, and these were immediately devoured. I watched as they read and saw how their faces would show different emotions, awe, amazement, empowerment. I could FEEL them thinking they too could be a heroine. And they can! What better way to teach them this valuable lesson than from actual people they can relate to! I now get a history lesson each time they pick up the book and read to me about a hero or heroine they have come to love. My absolute favorite thing about National Geographic Kids is the way they can keep my kids entertained and educated with each story. And they are not only heroes and heroines of old, my girls recognized some of their favorite actors and were thrilled to learn more about them.

Every kid needs a hero/heroine (aside from their mom and dad of course!). Why not let them read about some of the many in the world- and gain the attributes that will make them a hero/heroine too!
