It’s that time to of year again! Temperatures are rising and school is almost out for the Summer! Make sure to keep your kids reading this summer. For some added incentive here is a list of FREE Summer Reading Programs…

Barnes & Noble – This summer reading program through Barnes & Noble gives your child the ability to earn a FREE book after reading 8 books and keeping track of them in a reading log.

Book Adventure – Sylvan offers this FREE reading incentive program. Your child reads books and then takes a simple quiz to make sure they understood what they read. The quiz is usually about 10 questions long. They earn points based on how much they remember from reading the book. There are hundreds of books to choose from in all reading levels. Once they have earned enough points they can trade them in for prizes.

Half Price Books – Kids ages 14 and under can earn a $5 Gift Card for reading just 15 minutes each day. Once they reach 300 minutes your child can turn in their completed reading log to get their $5 HPB Back-to-School Bucks.

Scholastic Summer Challenge – Log your reading minutes at the Scholastic site and your child will be able to participate in a World Record challenge as well as earn prizes.

TD Bank Summer Reading Program – Read 10 books and write them down on their Summer Reading Form. When you turn it in your child will get $10 added to their Young Saver Account FREE!

Local Public Library – Don’t forget to check with your local libraries to find out if they’re offering programs this summer.

That Paint Thing – So Fun & Totally Worth it!

Posted by on Apr 24, 2017

Have you heard of That Paint Thing? I’m sure you have. Or some version of it. I’ve been wanting to go for forever. But I was a little hesitant since I have ZERO artistic ability. I mean none. I’m pretty good at stick figures, but that’s about the extent of my skills. But I finally decided to bite the bullet and give That Paint Thing a try. Even if I did a horrible job, at least I would have a night out with some of my favorite people, right?

I LOVED it! The instructor is fun, upbeat, very informative, and makes things feel do-able. She takes you through each step of the process, one by one, to create your masterpiece.

That Paint Thing is your LADIES night, DATE night, or FUN night destination. We have teamed up with Leatherby’s Family Creamery, Waffle Love and Brick Oven to offer an atmosphere of creativity and fun. This means we are combining painting, music, and prizes with amazing Leatherby’s Ice Cream, delicious Waffle Love creations or your choice of a tasty menu item at Brick Oven. Menu choice at Leatherby’s or Waffle Love catering included with your reservation.

When you get there, you will check in and find a seat. At your seat it will look something like this:

A blank canvas with the brushes and paints you will need. Depending on your location, a server will come get your food order and you will wait for everyone to show up. Once they do, the fun begins!

You will be guided through the steps to complete your masterpiece. You can see the end result as well as one that the instructor is painting as you are so you can see more clearly what to do. There are short breaks in between some of the steps so you can grab bites of your food or use that time to catch up on your painting (That’s what I used almost all of the breaks for.)

The only thing I would change is getting food. In the future, I would just go to the venues that don’t have food during the event. There just wasn’t enough time to really dig in while painting. So my food was just in my way and my ice cream ended up as a big, sad, puddle.

I love how every painting turns out differently. We all did things that were a little off from the others. Some had birds, some had more flowers, or more red, some had bigger mountains, some a brighter sun. It was great! I will absolutely go again. And every single person that went with me said the same thing. It was absolutely worth the price and time!

Plus, they are offering kids Summer camps right now! So fun!

10 Simple and Low Cost Saint Patrick’s Day Ideas!

Posted by on Mar 16, 2017

Deals of the Week

Here are my top deals of the week as featured on Good4Utah today. Make sure to tune in next Thursday for the new deals! And check back here every day for all the other great deals you can score. Plus, make sure to enter to win a Cinemark Prize Pack!

One of my favorite holidays is Saint Patrick’s Day. I love that you can do as little or as much as you want and it is absolutely perfect! There is no stress or pressure like on some of the other holidays. That being said, here are some of my favorite Saint Patrick’s Day ideas, crafts, and traditions.

  1. Green food coloring: This is an absolute MUST for this holiday. You can use it for so many different things. We use it to color our milk, make green pancakes or any other food, and sometimes to color our toilet water green.
  2. Lucky blocks from Heartfelt Wall Hangings: Heartfelt Wall Hangings has SO many adorable crafts at amazing prices. Snag these LUCKY blocks in a kit for just $5.50!
  3. The Lucky Leprechaun Hunt: Print this hunt or make your own! It’s super easy and you can do it with stuff you already have at your house with absolutely no preparation (my favorite) or hide the items for them to find beforehand.
  4. The Night Before Saint Patrick’s Day: We absolutely love The Night Before books and this one is just as good as the rest! It’s a must to read the night before.
  5. Rainbow & Pot of Gold craft: Another easy craft that is crazy cute. One of the amazing preschool teachers at my daughter’s school does this with her class and they LOVE it. Frankly, so do I.
  6. Saint Patrick’s Day Would You Rather: Such a fun, silly way to enjoy the holiday. Answer questions like Would you rather catch a leprechaun or have a pet unicorn? Plus, it’s a FREE download.
  7. Green treats: Our family leprechaun always leaves a few green treats at our house. Usually a can of Sprite and some kind of green candy. If you don’t want sugar you can do a green apple and colored milk or something similar.
  8. Silly Leprechaun Tricks: When the leprechaun visits our house he plays silly tricks. They are never harmful or malicious and they are always easily cleaned up. Usually just things like leaving all the cupboard doors open, switching which drawer pants and socks are in, or turning couch cushions upside down. My kids think this is hilarious.
  9. Green Hair Spray: If you want to add a little extra green to your ensemble you can grab some green hair spray. Of course I grabbed it when it was on clearance after Halloween. That’s just how I roll.
  10. Set a Leprechaun trap: Who DOESN’T want to catch that silly leprechaun? It’s so fun to set a trap to see if you can catch that pesky little guy. We try to lure him in with gold or treats with some kind of spring to trap him when he picks them up. Sadly, we’ve had no luck so far. But that doesn’t mean we won’t keep trying!

I laugh at the jokes. I cry at the sad parts. I smile, I oooh and awww when appropriate; usually when the girl and boy get together in the end. Yep, I am any director or producer’s perfect audience. Basically, I LOVE movies. I love getting immersed into the emotions and forgetting about whatever is going on in my life at the moment.

It has been this way for as long as I can remember. Plain and simple; I LOVE movies. As I’ve had kids I have loved being able to share that with them. I get more excited to see their reactions as to feel my own. And with the new luxury loungers at Cinemark? Yeah. That just makes the whole experience that much better. Personalogy: Fun For The Whole Family!

Posted by on Jan 31, 2017

It’s Winter. That means it’s cold outside and Spring break is on the horizon. That means you need something to keep your kids happy (and let’s face it, hold on to your sanity) asap. This is when my family likes to pull out the games! There are so many great ways to occupy your kids and help them to use their minds. Personalogy is one of our new faves.

I cannot describe how much fun we had and continue to have with this game! It is super easy and required zero parent involvement to set up and get started. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love playing games with my kids. But sometimes it’s nice to know I can sit one out every once in a while and they will be able to continue to play and have fun. I love that there are multiple choice answers for the questions you (or your kids) aren’t sure of. I will say that most of the time we just ignored those options. We tend to have more fun and longer conversations if we come up with our own answers. Plus, there are parent/adult questions as well as questions that anyone can answer. If you haven’t checked out this fun game, then now is the perfect time!

Personalogy: A Laugh-out-loud discovery card game for the family (ideal for kids 7-11). Brings families together instantly – the playful, heart-warming and silly questions gets everyone talking, laughing and having fun! Questions have multiple choice answers to make it easy for kids.Play at family meals or game night.Discover something new about your family. perfect for birthday or holiday parties, family gatherings, A perfect antidote for traveling with kids, road trips, and plane rides. Triple AAA recommends it for road trips too! The speciality box is designed to be small enough to put in your purse, backpack or glove box. Cards are the same size as a regular deck of playing cards. A great game for grandparents to connect with their grandkids!
