Are Season Passes & Family Memberships Worth It?!

Posted by on Jul 6, 2017

Season passes and family memberships seem to be the norm around here. Everyone seems to have at least one. But are they worth the money? I looked at A LOT of options and prices to answer just that question. My answer? Maybe.

Price matters. No question there. But also location and how often you will use the pass. Most of the passes seem to be about the price of three regular visits. So if you plan on using your pass or membership more than three times in the year you have it, then it’s definitely worth it. Go every weekend and you have more than justified the cost.

Bottom line? Do your research: Make sure the cost is worth the benefits for YOUR family. What works for mine, may not work for yous.

That being said, check out some of my favorites:

  • Cherry Hill: A season pass is priced at $89.95 per person at this waterpark. Prices tend to be lower before the season starts. A single visit starts at $21 for the water park. So you will need to visit more than 4 times to make it worth the price. You can also opt for the King of the Hill season pass for $114.95. This one includes the water park, mini golf, jungle maze, Aeroball, Hamster Haven, BattleStar Blasters, The ROCK and Junior Jungle Boats. This one seems like a way better deal in my opinion.
  • Cowabunga Bay: A season pass is regularly priced at $109.99, but if you wait until the end of the season and buy for next year, you will only pay $64.99! This is a killer deal and you won’t want to wait! Go just 4 times and you have made it worth your while.
  • Discovery Gateway: A family membership (1 adult + 5 guests) is $150. A single visit is $9.50. So a family of 6 would need to go 3 times to be worth it. If your family is smaller, you would need to visit more often to be worth the price.
  • Hogle Zoo: A family membership (2 adults & all dependent children) will set you back $149. So, again, it depends on the size of your family. A family of four would need to go 3 times to make the membership worth it. If your family is bigger it would be worth your while much faster. I prefer to purchase the Zoo Booster membership so I can always get 2 extra people in for free. I’m much more likely to go if I can bring people with me.

aquarium

  • The Living Planet Aquarium: Visit the aquarium just 3 times and you will have justified a family membership (2 adults & 4 children) to the Living Planet Aquarium since it is priced at $189.95.
  • Thanksgiving Point: The price for a family membership here (2 adults & dependent children) is $220. But it includes all four Thanksgiving Point venues. Just visit each venue ONCE with a family of five and you have made that membership worth your while.
  • Red Butte Garden: This place is gorgeous! Plus, you can get a family membership (2 adults & 6 children) for only $75. If you have just a family of four you will make the membership worth the price in just TWO visits!

There are tons of other places to get a membership or season pass. Just make sure to do your research before you buy. What are some of YOUR favorite places to have a membership?

Yesterday I Let Myself Cry…

Posted by on Jul 6, 2017

Yesterday I let myself cry. I let myself feel. I let myself grieve. Yesterday I let myself carefully open the box where I have been shoving all the feelings and thoughts “I couldn’t deal with” today so that I could feel them another day. Yesterday was another day.

Yesterday I allowed myself to be flooded with emotions from that box. And I was nearly overwhelmed by it. There was pain. And grief and loss and hurt and so much more. My heart ached at the memories of a little boy I never got to raise; a son I never got to hear giggle or cry. A boy who I felt move inside of me, but was denied the feeling of him moving outside of me. I can imagine what he would look like now. I can see his sweet twelve year old face with blue eyes and brown hair. He would be perfect. He IS perfect, but he only exists in my mind.

Quentin

Yesterday he was real. Yesterday I remembered. And while yesterday was hard, it was yesterday.

Today things feel a little better. I can walk a little lighter. I can look at my three beautiful children and know that I am blessed beyond measure. Today am so grateful for yesterday. Sometimes we need to open that box where we have shoved our feelings and let them wash over us so that we can start living in today and only remembering yesterday.

Little Learners couponIt’s that time of year again! Time to figure out where to send your little one to preschool or kindergarten next year.

If you haven’t checked out Little Learners Academy for preschool and/or kindergarten in West Jordan, UT yet you don’t know what you are missing! They are by far the best school I have been to and my son has LOVED every second of school there.
And right now you can save $10 on registration when you mention that Mamas on a Dime sent you!

Believe me, you will not regret sending your child to this fabulous school. Little Learners has a great curriculum with phenomenal teachers. They do field trips, parties, and so much more! Call or stop by today and get your child registered!

I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled we have been since sending my boys to Little Learners. My oldest son did 3 years of preschool there and also attended Kindergarten. My younger son also went there for two years of with Becky’s cute daughter. And now? My youngest is going there! She went for a few months last year and will be starting again next month. These teachers love our kids and really get to know them. I am beyond impressed. And I know you will be too!

Your child will get the foundation of education that they need. Not only will they learn more than you imagined, they will also learn to love to learn (which is what it’s really all about). My 8 and 10 year olds are both very smart for their age and I know a large part of that is due to Little Learners.

Feel free to shoot me an email to jacki@mamasonadime.com if you have any questions. And don’t forget to like Little Learners on Facebook.

My Less Than Happy Mother’s Day

Posted by on Jun 5, 2017

The struggle is real, people.

On Mother’s Day, my kids were being assholes (sorry, but there’s no better word to describe it.) There was a special program at church just for mothers day and it included a video of one of my kids talking about me. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. But my kids had other plans. They cried and whined and refused to go to their own classes. So I took said asshole children home and totally lost my shit. As soon as I started crying, my kids started crying. And soon after, the guilt set in. Which made me cry even harder.

After quite some time of hiding in my bathroom and feeling sorry for myself (how dare they act like this on today of all days!?) I remembered that they are human. They are MY tiny little humans. And my entire life revolves around them. Without these asshole children, this day would mean nothing. They are my whole world. And my job as their mother is to show them how amazing they are. How it’s okay to make mistakes and be assholes sometimes. But we need to learn from those mistakes. We can try harder and be better.

After my crying session there were apologies all around. And hugs and more tears. But happy ones this time. Just because it was Mother’s Day doesn’t mean I got to stop being a mother. It’s the best job I’ll ever have. Even if it is the hardest.

Happy late Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Even the ones who lost their shit. Especially those ones.
